Tom Barret tagged me with this ‘5 things about me’ meme, so here goes.
1. I was born in Nadi in the Fiji Islands, but immigrated to Toronto, Canada with my family when I was two years old. I have not been back since, but would like to visit Fiji, New Zealand, and Australia, where I have a few relatives.
2. My middle name is “Bellmondo†– enough said.
3. I helped pay for my undergraduate university degree through four summers of treeplanting in Northern Ontario and Northern British Columbia. At my peak, I was planting between 2000-2500 trees a day, would work 12 hour days, and slept in a tent for 3 months of the year. I almost died on an isolation contract (where we were dropped in by boat, and supplies by helicopter) reading a letter from the bi-weekly mail delivery from my girlfriend (now wife) and walking briskly down a trail towards a black bear.
4. I enjoy working with my hands, building wood furniture and doing home renovations.
5. I’m married to Laura and have a son “Darcy†who is 2 ½ years old. We have another child due in June.

got tagged
I got tagged a couple of times so with the premise of not over thinking these things and their importance, I’ll bite. My oldest daughter went to university when she was less than a year old. I married my wife when I was only 20 and had just completed my first
I’ve been watching these “five things about me†tag going around and around the blogosphere lately and have enjoyed reading tidbits on everyone’s lives. I especially love the things that are personal and have nothing to do with educational technology – things that are just wow, how interesting! Helen and I were tagged by Silvia Tolisano. So here are my five things… The first is my gratuitous hokey fact. But it
Hey Quentin!
All the best to you and your family in 2007! Let’s VC sometime soon!

Hi Quentin – thanks for playing along with the meme, I hope that things are well with you. How much snow have you had? I trust you had a good Christmas…back to work soon?
Let me know if you have anything planned re: Google Earth projects in the future.
Best wishes
Tom
Hi Quentin,
I’m really enjoying this meme – just found out, for example, that I have quite a lot in common with Clarence Fisher.
Anyway, my blog over at Ontario Blogs is supposed to be for PD purposes and I don’t have my own personal blog yet (soon, soon…), so I thought I’d answer here.
Here goes:
1. I was awarded a scholarship to spend my last two years of high school the United World College of the Adriatic in Italy – an experience I highly recommend. This school is one of more than 12 UWCs. Their philosophy can be summed up by this quote from Lester B. Pearson: “How can there be peace if people don’t understand each other, and how can they understand each other if they don’t know each other?”
2. My husband Nico and I spent three years teaching English in Japan when we finished university. Another eye- and heart-opening experience.
3. If all goes well, my first novel for young people (currently called ‘Double Take’) will be in stores this fall.
4. I’m the mother of 4.5-year-old Oliver.
5. I love to sing and am finally getting back into community theatre after a seven-year hiatus.
Happy New Year!
