Tracking Down Educators that Use Photo Sharing (flickr)
I have been building up a new section on the wiki on Photo Sharing in Education . There were a number of ideas that I built upon from the RSS Ideas for Educators guide and developed in this section.
I wanted to ensure, as I had done for other sections of the wiki, that I included examples of K-12 educators that are using photo sharing web sites. (I also included a Higher Education section for Chris Lott .)
As I had done for the social bookmarking section, I used a number of different strategies to track down educators that are using photo sharing with a focus on Flickr. Included are some of the strategies that I used.
- I took the names of educational bloggers and educators that I used in the social bookmarking tools section of the wiki and plugged them into Flickr, using the "People" search feature .
- Once a user was identified, I examined their profile in order to find more information about that user. A profile might include specific teacher information like Aaron Smith or the url of a web site/blog for more details about the user.
- Once a user was identified as an educator, I was able to search through that user's contacts in order to identify other educators. This works particularly well for profiles of well known educational blogger like Tim Lauer.
- Another method of tracking down educators was by joining Flickr groups and examining its members. A few groups were particularly useful: FlickrEdu, Flickr for Education, and Educational Bloggers.
And here is the big list, and my own Flickr site. Please let me know if I you would like to be added to the list or if I made any
errors.

woah. that’s a lot of edu-folk on flickr. wonder if that means anything…
As the elementary Principal at Wildwood Park Elementary you can add me to your list.

Flickr is a good resourse, but there are so many photo programs available. My college-aged daugher is a MySpace/FaceBook junkie. She likes them all except Flickr. My point is that lots of educators use photos online, but they just may not use Flickr. Check out the increasing number of videos online from teachers. I just check out the K-12 Group on YouTube.com. Google Video also has an educational section. Thanks for the resources! I can not wait to check out your Moodle resources. I use Moodle in our classroom.
I like how you share your strategies for finding these links- a crucial lessom for sharing. And thanks for including my photos, though most are not teaching related.
But a manual list of links, is so…. hate to utter a decimal….1.0. How about creating a common tag others could use via del.icio.us to indicate? Then you get the wisdom (or nonsense) of crowds, rss, etc. etc. etc.

Greetings from Finland
Could someone tell more about educational content on YouTube? I already joined K12 Group but there aren’t too many videos yet…
Hi Juska,
Dean Shareski has a few posts that might be helpful. He started the K-12 group at YouTube.
Also within Youtube you can start a discussion in your group. That is probably a good place to get some conversation going around purpose.
I wanna be on the list, too!
Could be Higher Education or EdTech Geeks
Check http://www.flickr.com/photos/wytze. Last set of pictures is of the recent European Sakai Days.
We also have an organizational account we use for things like a Biology microscopy lab set: http://flickr.com/photos/uafcde/sets/95396/ …
